A captivating solid oak display cabinet with leaded stained glass doors in the style of Henning Kjærnulf, combining the decorative vocabulary of Danish folk tradition with the material confidence of 1960s Scandinavian workshop production. The piece occupies a compelling and relatively rare position within mid-century Danish furniture — a cabinet form that draws equally on ecclesiastical craft heritage and the guild cabinetmaking traditions that defined the best of Jutland workshop output.
The twin doors are the defining feature of this cabinet: each is glazed with a grid of leaded lights in subtly tinted glass — deep amber, olive green, and smoky grey — arranged in a pattern that references the arched Gothic tracery of church windows while remaining entirely resolved as a modernist object. The lead came is fine and precisely executed, the individual panes uniform in dimension and immaculate in condition. The brass keyhole escutcheon at the centre is original and appropriately understated.
The case itself is constructed from solid oak displaying a warm, honey-toned open grain across all faces, with the characteristic medullary ray figuring visible on the broader panels. The top projects gently beyond the carcase on all sides, its leading edge softened with a rounded profile that prevents the cabinet from reading as box-like. The shallow apron beneath the case is shaped into a gentle arch — a quiet echo of the glazing above.
The legs are hand-turned in Kjærnulf's distinctive faceted column form — compressed knops separated by squared transitional sections — and stand with a confident, grounded presence that anchors the piece without adding visual weight. The interior is fitted with adjustable shelves, making the cabinet as practical as it is decorative.
An exceptional and highly displayable piece that will appeal equally to collectors of Danish mid-century furniture and those furnishing interiors with a strong eye for craft, material quality, and decorative distinction.
