Italy, 1911 origin italy period 1911 author leonardo roda (racconigi, cuneo, 1868 – turin, 1933) a piedmontese landscape painter, almost self-taught, he perfected his skills under the guidance of marco calderini. A passionate mountaineer and botanist, he spent a long time in valtournenche in the aosta valley, where the matterhorn became his favourite subject, portrayed in countless versions according to the changing seasons, hours and weather conditions. He made his debut at the exhibition of the promotrice torinese in 1889, in which he participated for the next thirty-five years; he was also present at the circolo degli artisti in turin from 1895 to 1925, and at the exhibitions in florence, milan and genoa. His style, which can be ascribed to the verist movement, is distinguished by a vibrant, textured brushstroke and a modern sensitivity in the use of color.
