Set in thin gilded frames, the paintings depict two cupids immersed in a celestial, cloudy atmosphere. The first cupid is depicted naked, reclining and asleep on a bed of clouds, with one arm raised above his head, suggesting he is sound asleep. On his chest are blooming rose branches, allegorically symbolizing Cupid's love and repose.
The second cupid is depicted awake, also reclining on the clouds, raising his finger to his mouth as a sign of silence and holding his bow in the other hand, suggesting the secrecy of love's games.
