A sculptural pair in the round depicting the stroll between the god Bacchus and Ariadne. Bacchus encircles Ariadne with his arms as they exchange a knowing glance. Their heads, crowned with vine leaves, and their tunics subtly reveal their anatomies. The two figures rest on a rectangular base that imitates a tiled pavement.
This group is carved following classical, ancient Roman models from the 1st and 2nd centuries BC. Reproductions of these models were common in Italy during the Grand Tour.
