A statement French Provincial dough bin console, known in France as a pétrin or maie, dressed in warm walnut veneer and built in the Louis XIII taste. The bones tell the story: lathe-turned, columnar legs joined by a scalloped foliate stretcher, the hallmark Louis XIII silhouette, while the front carries a beautifully carved urn-and-basket medallion in the neoclassical Louis XVI manner. A piece that borrows freely from two French courts, exactly as the finest provincial cabinetwork did.
The lift-off top reveals a divided storage trough, a nod to the form's origins as a bread-kneading bin, now a charming secret compartment. Equally at home as an entry console, a bar, or a sculptural storage piece, it brings real presence and a sense of history to a room. Walnut veneer over a hardwood carcass with a lighter turned-leg base, so despite its grand looks it is surprisingly easy to move.
