The Abbeville Press edition (1985) of the Night Heron (Plate 236) facsimile is a world-class reproduction of John James Audubon’s masterpiece, matching the exact Double Elephant Folio scale of the 1830s original artwork.
Taken from The Birds of America book by John James Audubon. The massive dimensions of 39.5x26.5 allow the Night Heron to be viewed at its actual, true-to-life size.
The "Nocturnal Perch" because the heron is a compact wading bird, Audubon depicted it in a dramatic, focused posture perched on a low mossy branch, extending its long, distinctive white head plumes across the composition so its entire body and nocturnal environment could fit onto the paper without shrinking the scale.
