The back supports have stepped surmounts, pierced and reeded cresting rails above dual plain rails, and boarded seats with pierced seat rails to the front, as well as the square legs joined by peripheral stretchers support this assessment. The stepped motifs to the back supports and the pierced and carved detail to the cresting rails provides a distinctive detail to this design that would suggest a Southwestern American origin.

These handsome custom made chairs have mortise and tenon joined construction with exposed tenons and the tips of the circular and square securing pegs can be seen upon the surfaces of the relevant sites. See less
