Arthur Diehl was born in England in 1870 and immigrated to the United States in 1891. The trade stamp on the stretcher of this work is from Wadsworth Bros and Howland in Boston. My reference shows 1893 as the last date known for that company. So, it is most likely that this was painted between 1891 and 1893 when Diehl was in his early 20s.
Oil on canvas, 12" x 18", signed lower right, in excellent estate condition. Outside frame dimensions are 17" x 23".
