Whispers of the Forgotten is one of the paintings from Daniel Kettlehut’s Karma and Rebirth series, which explores the idea that all things exist in a constant state of change and are shaped by what has come before. Rooted in the Buddhist concept of dependent origination, the work reflects the interconnectedness of past, present, and future, where nothing emerges independently and every form carries traces of earlier conditions.
The painting was developed by layering new imagery over remnants of previous compositions, allowing earlier marks to remain visible and influence the evolving surface. Through transparent glazes, subtle opaque passages, and the presence of dripped paint, the work conveys movement, uncertainty, and transformation.
Ultimately, the painting reflects the central theme of Karma and Rebirth: that what is new is always informed by what came before, and that meaning, like form, is continually shaped through time, perception, and transformation.
