Part Pagoda, part fireworks display, entirely uncategorizable in the best way. A cylindrical black lacquered base hand-decorated with gilt chinoiserie scenes, a crane mid-stride through florals and clouds, supports a brass starburst collar that erupts upward into a slender stem capped with a glossy red lacquer canopy and a brass ball finial. Could be a cigarette holder, could be a small umbrella stand, could just be a conversation piece that refuses to explain itself. Either way, it's having a wonderful time being looked at.
