Sabine Ebel
Painter, draughtswoman, graphic artist, and calligrapher.
She created her art primarily in private. There is no evidence that she ever exhibited her work publicly. For this reason, her distinctive oeuvre remained undiscovered for a long time and was only recently subjected to closer scrutiny.
From 1966, she studied at the Kassel School of Art and Design.
In addition to calligraphic works, in which Ebel, among others, uniquely interpreted poems by Walter Helmut Fritz and Agnes Miegel, she primarily created works that explore the connection between image and book, or drawing and writing. Sabine Ebel's work follows a 20th-century tradition shaped by Paul Klee's "script paintings," Cy Twombly's "scribbles," and the works of Anselm Kiefer.
