Painting - Alves Cardoso. 'Potter'. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1927. Dimensions: 80x67 cm. Biographical Note: Portuguese painter born in Caneças; his teachers included Carlos Reis; and while initially academically influenced by History Painting, he later embraced plein air and genre Naturalism, having been part of Silva Porto's group. He primarily dealt with landscape, animal, and popular customs themes, characterized by a vivid and luminous chromatism, as in Dust of Light (in the Chiado Museum), and Autumn, The Flock, and The Snack (in a private collection). He occasionally dedicated himself to interior decorations, such as in the São Bento Palace and the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital. This piece has an attribution mark,
