Omnia vanitas vanité 3 candelabra in patinated cast bronze by william guillon hand sculpted, dated and signed dimensions: ø 8 x w 12 x h 40 cm materials: patinated cast white bronze gold bronze available existential questions have always been at the core of my creative process. I constantly return to the same obsessions: death, the passage of time, the elusive meaning of life. Omnia vanitas, meaning “all is vanity,” is my way of exploring these questions through matter. It is a reflection on the emptiness that underlies existence and on the impermanence of everything we create or treasure. Through this body of work, i wanted to shape objects that are both beautiful and unsettling, objects that speak of presence while hinting at inevitable absence. I call them vanities. Each one is crafted in white bronze, a material that resists corrosion yet will eventually bear the marks of time. These objects are mirrors held up to our own mortality, inviting us to question the role objects play in our lives and the traces we leave behind. This series is part of a long tradition of philosophical memento mori. It continues an ancient conversation, one that acknowledges the futility of material wealth and worldly pleasures while celebrating the fragile beauty of existence itself. Omnia vanitas is not a collection of accessories. It is a collection of silences, of echoes, of what remains after the noise has faded. William guillon william guillon’s main influences are strong artistic movements, often dark and filled with modern melancholy. Obsessed with a futuristic dystopic vision, the issues he adresses are always loaded with his attraction for a strong imagery. Beyond his influences, he has always been driven by his love for noble materials, raw materials to work on and embellish without altering them. Always valuing handicraft work, his objects are designed as high quality products, without ever compromising the aesthetics for the easy option. William guillon has set up his studio with, as a basis, a reflexion around black and darkness. His interest for luminous objects was indeed born of a desire to carve this darkness with light as if it were a pure and precious material. this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
