spectacular pumpkin-shaped punch bowl in pink opaline crystal, baccarat, napoleon iii, 19th century, circa 1880. The bowl is crafted in the coveted "pigeon's breast" pink color. This color is achieved by adding gold salts in the form of cassiopeia purple to the original composition. In the preparatory mixture, the excess tin imparts a violet hue associated with hydrangea pink, which can be more intense or softer. Initially called hydrangea pink, it later, in the second half of the 19th century, became known as pigeon's breast pink. The punch bowl is adorned with indian-inspired motifs, decorated with gold enamel and semiprecious stones or onyx beads. With a gold rim, it rests on a matching tray with a polylobed profile and gold rim. These pieces were highly prized during the second half of the 19th century.
