The original … Read more This painting is a framed, hand-painted study of the original oil by the French artist, Henri Philippoteaux . The original masterpiece completed in 1874 now hangs in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The painting is of the battle between the English and the French forces at Waterloo on June 18, 1815 and shows the red-coated British and Scottish infantry holding their ground against the French Cuirassiers.
The lower left side of this study bears a distinct signature and date reading, "C. Wood, '84. It has been popular for secondary artists and students to recreate famous war panoramas to study composition or sell as decorative pieces. While not the original masterpiece of Philippoteaux, the painting is visually appealing and offers historical value for collectors. See less
