This beautifully executed print depicts a young woman from the Mora region of Dalarna, one of Sweden's most culturally distinctive provinces, carrying a child in a traditional back basket. Rendered with exceptional delicacy and tonal richness, the composition captures the quiet dignity of rural Swedish life. The sitter wears traditional Dalecarlian dress, including a patterned headscarf and fringed outer garment, while gazing directly toward the viewer. The child, partially visible within the carrying basket, adds a touching human dimension to the scene. The sparse landscape background focuses attention on the figure, emphasizing both her individuality and her role as a representative of Sweden's folk traditions. Pehr Wickenberg (1812–1846) is regarded as one of the foremost painters of Swedish Romanticism. Although best known for his atmospheric winter landscapes, he also produced a number of genre scenes and studies of rural life. Following his untimely death, Albert Bonnier published Album Efter Taflor to preserve his artistic legacy. The album contained a portrait frontispiece, decorative title page, and a series of lithographs depicting scenes and figures from Swedish daily life, making surviving individual plates highly desirable today. The Mora district occupies a special place in Swedish cultural history and is often regarded as one of the strongholds of traditional Swedish costume and folk customs. Images depicting the people of Dalarna were widely admired during the nineteenth century and remain popular among collectors of Scandinavian art and ethnographic material. Combining artistic quality, cultural significance, and decorative appeal, this lithograph is an excellent acquisition for collectors of Nordic art, Swedish history, folk costume studies, or nineteenth-century genre prints. Condition Report: Good antique condition with age-related toning, scattered foxing, and minor handling wear. Light marginal imperfections consistent with age. The image remains crisp and attractive with strong tonal contrast. Framing Suggestions: This print displays beautifully in a gilt, walnut, or ebonized frame with a warm ivory museum mat. The understated monochromatic palette complements both traditional Scandinavian interiors and contemporary settings. Particularly effective when displayed alongside other plates from the *Album Efter Taflor* series. This offering is for an original nineteenth-century lithograph, not a modern reproduction. Any framed room visualizations are intended solely to illustrate potential display options and may not accurately represent the print's exact scale relative to the frame or interior setting. The print is sold unframed. Technique: Lithograph Maker: Pehr Wickenberg, lithographed by Oscar Cardon, published by Albert Bonnier, Stockholm, Sweden, c. 1850. See less
