Oval portrait on canvas of a magistrate, circa 1680-1720.
Bust portrait of a magistrate, shown in three-quarter view against a dark background. The sitter wears a black official robe with a white collar, the attire characteristic of magistrates during the reign of Louis XIV and the early 18th century. His long, curly wig, emblematic of the administrative and judicial elites of the period, affirms his social rank and position.
Note an old relining and a very small loss of paint on the cheek (see photo).
The frame is original, carved and painted oak, with some minor losses.
