Folded Figure Mali
Inspired by the powerful sculptural traditions of Mali and a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this abstract figurative work explores the symbolic relationship between the head, heart, and hand. Layers of deep blues and rich black tones create a contemplative composition in which the folded figure emerges through gesture, form, and movement.
Balancing abstraction and figuration, the work reflects themes of human connection, memory, and inner strength. Expressive mark-making and dynamic surfaces evoke the timeless presence of ancient sculpture while reimagining the figure through a contemporary lens.
Pairs well with Folded Figure Mali I.
