In the early 1980s, the three artists Brian Fitzgibbon, Osterhold Heiseke, and Peter Loeding were commissioned to go to the Seca GmbH & Co. KG factory in Hamburg to artistically document the processes and, above all, the employees. Loeding conducted his studies and work at the company over a period of about four years, creating both spontaneous drawings and paintings based on them. “with the commission […] to paint the employees at the machine, in shipping, and during their breaks, he found his subject and also his identity” (Seca Vogel & Halke GmbH & Co. (ed.) (1985): Three Artists and a Factory; Hamburg; unpaginated [p. 5]). The present painting depicts just such a scene during the lunch break.
