A Georgian drop-leaf gate-leg table, featuring solid mahogany Marlborough legs and a richly figured 3/4” solid mahogany top over an oak-framed base with thick mahogany-veneered aprons. When closed, the table is 17” deep, making it useful in smaller spaces as a console, or sofa table while opening to provide generous seating space.
Likely English, circa 1760–1780. Dimensions:
42" L × 17" D closed (50" D open) × 28.5" H
The table retains early hand-forged nails, hand-cut dovetails, substantial original iron hinges, and traditional gate-leg construction. It has been carefully cleaned, stabilized, and refinished using traditional materials, preserving its age and character while providing an easy-to-maintain surface for everyday use. Honest wear, minor imperfections, and evidence of centuries of use remain throughout and are consistent with the table's age.
Original mortises on the sides and beneath the leaves are also retained, which were designed to connect with matching tables as part of a larger modular dining arrangement, common in larger Georgian households.
