This vintage Afghan Bokhara area rug, hand-knotted in the mid-20th century, features the signature allover geometric gul medallion pattern — the octagonal tribal emblem that is the defining visual identity of the Bokhara weaving tradition and one of the most instantly recognized designs in the tribal rug world. The rich plum field — an unusual and striking color choice within the Bokhara tradition — is complemented by dark burgundy and midnight blue motifs, framed by a narrow border in burnt orange, ivory, and brown. Woven with exceptionally fine wool that gleams softly under light, this piece brings authentic Central Asian tribal character to any interior.
Afghan Bokhara rugs, drawing on the same design vocabulary as the great Turkmen tribal rugs of Central Asia, are distinguished by their deeply saturated natural dye palettes, their fine wool pile, and the meditative rhythm of their repeating gul patterns.
