Conceptual inspiration: cosmic aesthetics and the collision of light
"stratosferico" is a suspended lighting sculpture that explores the laws of geometry, symmetry, and visual refraction. The concept stems from italian designer dario nasuti’s desire to fragment a perfect shape – the sphere – to reveal its pulsating core. The artwork stages a true physical narrative: in the central section, the light physically "collides" and escapes through a millimeter gap, creating the powerful dramatic effect of an energetic glow erupting from a rupture in matter.
as with all the artist's creations, the conception is deeply influenced and paced by the geometric, avant-garde notes of 1970s progressive rock playing constantly in his parma atelier. This conceptual drive transforms an industrial metallic body into a dynamic installation suspended in mid-air, where geometric rigor meets a vibrant, contemporary pop energy.
the manufacturing process: from luxury rigor to industrial sculpture
the millimeter-perfect execution and visual balance of "stratosferico" derive from an exceptional thirty-year career in the international luxury sector, which began in 1992. This immense cultural heritage — culminating in a decade spent leading onward luxury group as ceo until 2020 and in historic collaborations with global fashion powerhouses like donna karan — endows the designer with a unique mastery in controlling volumes, three-dimensionality, and spatial proportions.
the manufacturing process, executed entirely freehand in the artist's workshop, requires meticulous internal engineering. Four brushed steel hemispheres, 28 cm in diameter, are pierced to be traversed by a single load-bearing power cable, secured internally by safety clamps that determine their placement. Inside each canopy, a custom-designed round plate is screwed in to house the recessed led spotlights and their dedicated transformers, linked through industrial-grade multi-clip connectors. The result is a perfectly balanced sculptural block that appears to float through pure magnetism.
materials, finishes, and total bespoke customization
the artwork is a unique piece of avant-garde functional art entirely conceived and assembled in parma, italy, within the artist's impressive 300-sqm showroom and workshop located in the heart of the historic center.
materials: pure brushed steel hemispheres (28 cm diameter), internal metal plates, multi-clip safety wiring, and high-resistance load-bearing textile cable.
lighting engineering: the lamp features a total of 6 built-in 4w led spotlights. The distribution is calculated for total light diffusion: the outer hemispheres (top and bottom) house two spotlights each to project sharp beams onto the ceiling and floor; the two central ones house one spotlight each, positioned oppositionally so that the two light beams collide, unleashing the signature central glow.
up to 250v (europe/uk standard).
