Bring a grand stroke of Mediterranean romance and Renaissance-inspired flair to your space with this striking pair of vintage Italianate majolica-style ceramic vases. Masterful in scale and rich in artisanal detail, these substantial urns feature a vibrant, hand-painted palette of cobalt blue, lemon yellow, ochre, and earthy greens against a crisp white glazed ground.
The front of each vase boasts a beautifully framed central medallion showcasing a winged putto (cherub) serenading his surroundings with a stringed instrument. This classical scene is encircled by a lush, dimensional garland overflowing with lemons, pinecones, blossoms, and thick foliage.
Adding a wonderful architectural quality, the shoulders of the urns are flanked by high-relief, molded lion head masks. In a charming nod to traditional craftsmanship, the ceramic ring handles feature subtle variance—one vase features deep blue rings while the other features rich green rings—highlighting their unique, handmade character.
The whimsical blue scrollwork and tendrils extend entirely around the body, culminating on the reverse side with an elegant cartouche scroll bearing the historicist date "1688."
Perfect for anchoring a grand entry console, flanking a mantle, or bringing an air of maximalist luxury to a dining room sideboard, these vases offer incredible visual weight and old-world sophistication.

As is typical with hand-painted earthenware and vintage majolica-style ceramics, there are minor factory glazing variances and light surface wear consistent with age. Please note that one vase exhibits some notable chips and glaze flaking along the top mouth/rim (as is common with pieces of this material and age). These small losses reveal the pale ceramic body underneath but do not compromise the structural integrity of the piece; instead, they lend an authentic, time-softened patina that enhances their antiquarian character. The second vase rim remains structurally intact with only minor fleabites. less
