An exceptional and grandly scaled vintage Italian Majolica-style ceramic urn vase, showcasing the rich, historic artistry of Mediterranean tin-glazed earthenware. This striking artisanal vessel features a classic ovoid form beautifully decorated with vibrant, hand-painted motifs in a traditional palette of cobalt blue, lemon yellow, warm ochre, and rich copper greens over a creamy white ground.
One side of the vase centers a finely executed pictorial vignette depicting a winged putto (cherub) playing a stringed instrument amidst a rolling mountain landscape. This classical scene is framed by a thick, lush garland of painted fruits—including lemons, citrons, blossoms, and pinecones—symbolizing abundance. The reverse side features a prominent, classical scrolled banner or cartouche inscribed with the historic style date 1688, beautifully flanked by symmetrical scrolling foliage and stylized botanical volutes.
Adding to its monumental and neoclassical appeal, the vase is adorned with two dimensional, sculptural lion-mask handles on either side, finished in a contrasting golden ochre glaze. Each detailed lion head holds a vibrant emerald-green ring in its jaws. The tapered neck is encircled by a geometric interlocking wave motif, leading up to a boldly rolled, cobalt blue rim.
This statement piece brings instant Old World character and sophisticated European elegance to any setting. It is perfectly suited as a standalone masterpiece on a grand entry console, a centerpiece for a rustic refectory table, or staged as a high-end accent in a Mediterranean-inspired sunroom.

This piece is structurally sound with excellent glaze stability and beautifully preserved, vivid colors. Consistent with age and authentic handle-crafted pottery, there are visible chips along the top mouth/upper rim, exposing the pale ceramic body beneath the blue glaze. These minor losses do not detract from the structural integrity of the piece and instead contribute to its rustic, time-worn antiquarian charm. Light shelf wear to the base and expected firing characteristics inherent to artisanal ceramics are present. less
