Likely produced in Austria, Czechoslovakia, or Poland during the golden age of bentwood furniture — circa 1890 to 1920 — this handmade chair was steam-bent in the tradition of Michael Thonet's revolutionary craft that transformed furniture making in the mid-19th century.

The iconic arched hoop back with three tapered spindles, beautifully worn solid wood round indented seat, and gracefully curved legs with the signature bentwood stretcher ring beneath are all hallmarks of this celebrated regional workshop tradition. What sets this chair apart from later reproductions is its construction authenticity — original period screws, hand-applied metal strap reinforcements under the seat, and chalk workshop markings on the underside that speak unmistakably to its handmade origins.

The deep walnut-toned oak has developed a rich, honey-amber patina that only a century-plus of use can produce. Minor age-appropriate character marks include light checking along the seat edge and natural patina on the spindles. Structurally sound and ready to use as-is.
