My research has deep roots. Since i was a child, i was drawn to what many consider insubstantial; i felt the need to give solid form to the imagination, manipulating materials to transform them into real presences. Today, that game has transformed into my language: using matter to undermine the viewer's certainties.
in these works, color is my first attraction. I use saturated monochrome surfaces to capture the gaze and force it to pause. But it is a threshold that conceals a deception: the word written in cement contradicts what the eye sees, generating a perceptual shift.
the word written in cement emerges or is imprinted on the canvas, raw and heavy. This is where the perceptual shift occurs. The cement suggests a color or a concept that contradicts what the eye is actually seeing. Is the color we are observing really the right one, or is the writing telling us the truth? signed by maker
