An exceptional mid-century patinated bronze or heavy cast metal sculptural bust depicting a traditional Balinese Janger dancer. This piece originates from the renowned Bien Hoa School of Applied Arts (École Professionnelle de Biên Hòa) in French Indochina, dating to circa 1930s–1950s.
The sculpture beautifully showcases a young female dancer with downcast eyes, captured in a state of quiet serenity. She wears a highly stylized, majestic gelungan (ceremonial fan-shaped headdress) that is intricately chiseled to mimic a peacock's tail—a traditional symbol of beauty and spiritual grace in Southeast Asian culture. The piece features bare shoulders and sits on an integrated stepped tier base.
The underside of the raw cast metal shell features authentic, cold-stamped workshop registry stamps and an inventory tracking code (73-02 194), establishing its early foundry lineage. The bronze boasts a magnificent, dark brown-to-black original patina with soft lustrous undertones. A captivating statement piece for collectors of Asian art, Art Deco sculpture, or mid-century global decor.
