Rosemaling is a folk art form that was first popularized in 1700's Norway. It literally translates to 'painting of roses' and usually involves flowers and scroll work painted with oil on wooden surfaces. The shading is particularly unique to the Rosemaling style and the effect usually gives the design a visual pop somewhat similar to trompe l-oeil work. This piece was created by Monika Hoerl and features a woven wood basket similar in quality and style to Longaberger baskets. The painted lid features a Rosemaling design in shades of red, peach, coral, olive green and sage green with graphic details in black and antique white. The lid has a wooden knob and it can be removed from the basket or it can slide up the handle for easy access without removal. It is a great size and shape for everything from a sewing basket to a small picnic lunch carrier or even better, a cottage-core style handbag.
Very good condition. Previously owned though it appears rarely if ever used.
Measures 13" tall x 10" wide x 9.25" deep. The handle is not hinged and measures 20" from end to end providing for a 6" drop.
