Artist Bio:
Nanci Blair Closson is an American artist best known for her innovative "layered watercolors," which combine painted rag matboard, torn papers, and collage techniques to create richly textured, dimensional landscapes. Driven by a passion for experimentation, she blends watercolor, mixed media, and sculptural elements to move beyond traditional two-dimensional painting.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, and raised on an Indiana farm, Closson developed her creativity through imaginative exploration and a deep connection to nature—an influence that remains central to her work. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University and launched her professional career while living in Panama, where her paintings quickly gained recognition through exhibitions, awards, and strong sales.
A member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society, Closson has exhibited widely throughout the United States and has been featured in the books Master Class in Watercolor and Watercolor, The Creative Experience. Her work is celebrated for its vibrant color, expressive textures, and spiritual connection to the natural world.
