This abstract impressionistic mixed media painting (measuring 24” high X 36” wide (35 7|8" × 23 15/16" exactly) is by self-taught artist Wyman Lancaster (American, b. 1972).
This artwork is a contemporary abstract mixed-media painting featuring energetic calligraphic mark-making, dense fields of dark pigments, and vibrant pops of orange over a muted background.
Wyman developed a style of painting by working as a gallery helper who was influenced to start painting and as a result his paintings are surprisingly refined than naive and they bear a sophistication of many other artists that he has been specifically influenced by their work. He is inspired by the works of Christopher (Cystopher) Shoemaker, Richard Diebenkorn, Franz Kline and others.
Wyman's paintings are in several private collections. It’s rather amazing for an untrained self-taught artist to have such a sense of serenity about his work.
Wyman Lancaster was represented by Colin Fisher Studios Gallery in Cathedral City, California and now on Chairish through the Colin Fisher Studios’ store.
