Dimensions: height 80 cm, width 48 cm, depth 48 cm.

The pedestal has an octagonal form and is constructed from individual wooden panels with hand-carved relief decoration. Around the surface, various floral and botanical motifs are depicted, including flowers, leaves, stems, lotus-like forms, blossoms and other stylised plant designs. The combination of naïve carving, warm wood tones, lighter vertical supports and darker accented reliefs gives the object a particularly charming and handcrafted presence.

At the top is a black-and-gold plaque stating that the piece was made as a commemorative work for the Heisei 8 graduation year. Several lower panels include Japanese inscriptions and the names of students who contributed to the project.

Today, this kadai works beautifully as a tall plant stand, display pedestal for ceramics, base for a sculptural object or as an original Japanese interior accent. Its larger scale gives a plant, vase or object immediate presence, while the carved panels reveal new details from every angle.

In very good vintage condition, with a beautiful patina, light signs of use and small age-related traces consistent with age and handcrafted use. Sturdy, decorative and highly original. See less
