Conceptual inspiration: surrealism and the capture of light
"possess" is a sculptural wall sconce that skillfully stands on the boundary between avant-garde design and surreal art. The artwork stems from the intrinsic desire to capture, hold, and dominate the light source, transforming an anatomical fragment into a highly theatrical furniture piece. The creative process is constantly guided and evoked by the geometric, complex, and rebellious notes of 1970s progressive rock, which resonate in the studio, infusing the object with a sense of latent dynamism. The sconce strictly rejects staticity and stages a true visual narrative: the almost possessive and magnetic act of a hand grasping and emanating a sphere of warm light.
the manufacturing process: between industrial aesthetics and sartorial draping
the genesis of the artwork reflects a profound convergence between industrial rigor and sculptural sensitivity, the result of a prestigious thirty-year career in the international luxury sector that began in 1992. This extraordinary cultural heritage—culminating in a decade leading onward luxury group as ceo until 2020 and in historic collaborations with global and american fashion icons like donna karan—translates into the ability to manipulate matter, volumes, and the three-dimensionality of shapes with an almost sartorial approach.
the manufacturing process is meticulous and entirely executed freehand. It begins with a solid iron wall mount, equipped with a mounting bracket and grounding system, which is precision-milled to accommodate a male pvc mannequin hand. The structural and aesthetic fusion between the metal plate, the limb, and the internal lamp holder is achieved through the masterful use of metallic stucco. This material is handcrafted not only to consolidate the anchor but to recreate with extreme realism the organic porosity of the skin and the relief of the arm's venous network. Once the modeling is complete, the entire structure is finished with a durable industrial powder coating, combining the solidity of the ral color chart (the prototype is presented in a vibrant orange) with the living texture of the sculpture.
materials, production, and lighting engineering
the artwork is a unique piece of functional art entirely conceived, shaped, and assembled in parma, italy, within an impressive 300-sqm showroom and atelier located in the heart of the historic center.
construction materials: iron supporting mount, anatomical pvc sculpture, hand-modeled metallic stucco, safety wiring, and powder-coated finish.
light and shadow engineering: the sconce is specifically proportioned to house a large globe led bulb, with a diameter of 12.5 cm and a power of 4.5w. The exact millimeter relationship between the opening of the palm and the curvature of the glass generates the perfect optical illusion of the sphere tightly held between the fingers. When the sconce is turned on, the warm light source brings to life a magnificent scenic effect: while the orange body of the hand stands out in all its porosity, it projects the long, sharp, and dramatic shadows of the fingers onto the wall behind, transforming the surrounding space into an integral part of the artistic installation.
