Elegant and exceptionally well-crafted wardrobe designed by Italo Gamberini and produced in Tuscany during the 1940s. This refined piece embodies the transition between Italian rationalism and the softer, more decorative language that would characterize the post-war period, combining architectural rigor with subtle organic detailing. Executed in beautifully figured oak, the wardrobe is distinguished by its striking bookmatched grain across the two doors, creating a highly decorative façade while maintaining a restrained elegance. The silhouette is enriched by a delicately shaped upper cornice with a gently undulating profile, recalling the sophisticated decorative vocabulary found in the work of Paolo Buffa, Gio Ponti, and other leading Italian designers of the era. Further enhancing the design is the gracefully curved lower apron beneath the drawer, which introduces a sense of movement and lightness to the otherwise architectural form. The wardrobe stands on elegant splayed legs fitted with original brass sabots, lending the piece a refined, elevated appearance. Original bakelite and brass handles provide a beautiful material contrast against the warm oak surface, while the interior offers highly functional storage. Behind the double doors are a hanging compartment with clothes rail and a shelving section with four storage shelves, complemented by a large lower drawer featuring traditional dovetail construction. The entire piece has recently undergone a careful restoration and has been professionally refinished using traditional French polish (gommalacca), highlighting the exceptional grain and depth of the oak while preserving its historical character. with its balanced proportions, sophisticated details, and warm materiality, this wardrobe is perfectly suited for a bedroom, dressing room, boutique hotel suite, or refined entrance hall. A rare and highly decorative example of Italian furniture design from the 1940s.
