Fine white earthenware, fired at 1150°c, hand-painted decoration using the factory's traditional technique: peony motif on a globular body, large … Read more Fine white earthenware, fired at 1150°c, hand-painted decoration using the factory's traditional technique: peony motif on a globular body, large flowers with generous petals in pink, burgundy, and ochre yellow on brown branches, polychrome foliage in blue, green, and russet, on a white background; narrow neck encircled by a band of cobalt blue scrolls on a white background, repeated at the base.

the shape is characteristic of the factory's lighting production in the 1970s. The peony design was created in 1875 at the gien pottery factory, founded in 1821 by the british industrialist thomas hall in the loiret region; it has since become one of the company's emblematic motifs, interpreted from generation to generation within the naturalistic repertoire specific to gien.

the inscription "hand-painted / fired at 1150°c / decoration guaranteed to be permanent" and the castle stamp, used between 1971 and 1984, allow for precise dating. Affinities: longwy, quimper hb, moustiers.
