An obvious romantic theme, popularized by painters such as Eugène ISABEY and Théodore GUDIN, the style and technique obviously made us think of Jules NOËL when we acquired this painting 8 years ago (since kept in our personal collection).

A few years ago, we found a similar composition, naively painted and inscribed "d'après Jules NOËL" (after Jules NOËL), suggesting that the original had been painted by the latter.

The painting, however, appears to be monogrammed "J.D" and will therefore be sold as "french school XIXth"

Monogrammed lower right and dated 74 (for 1874)

Superb presentation, the painting was cleaned by a professional restorer in 2019 (some repaints not visible)
