Historical context: the oval dining table is one of the representative table forms that became established during the neoclassical period and are based on the design language of louis xvi. Characteristic features include the restrained design, oriented towards geometric order, and the use of marquetry as a flat decorative element. Tables of this type were found in living and dining rooms and combined a social function with a cohesive, decorative surface treatment. Features: continuous band marquetry with a herringbone pattern, diamond-shaped panels in the corners of the aprons, and linear veining on the legs. Divisible tabletop with an originally intended extension mechanism; the original center leaf is no longer present. Design: the design follows the louis xvi style with an oval base, straight, tapered legs, and symmetrically arranged marquetry. Lines and surface articulation are formally reduced and focused on geometric order; the decoration remains confined to the surface and subordinates itself to the overall calm form. Dimensions: h 74 × w 120 × d 80 cm. Material and condition: wood, veneered top with geometric inlays of differently tinted woods.
