A wonderfully aged hand-carved wooden Santos figure, likely dating to the 18th or 19th century. The figure retains traces of its original polychrome painted surface, with a red cloak, dark hair and a deep green painted base. Glass eyes and the expressive raised hand give it a strong, soulful presence.
Beautifully worn from age, with extensive craquelure, paint loss, surface wear, old wormholes and losses throughout. These imperfections are part of its history and give the piece the authentic character collectors look for in early religious carvings. Presented as found and best appreciated for its wonderfully timeworn surface.
