The narrow front is clearly proportioned and calmly structured: fluted pilasters, a subtly carved frieze with a grape and leaf motif, and turned feet combine to create a harmonious and cohesive design. Historical context: single-door mirrored wardrobes emerged around the turn of the century for households that lacked space for a large, two-door wardrobe. They were frequently found in bedrooms, dressing rooms, or hallways of smaller middle-class apartments and served to store clothing and linens, while the mirrored door also functioned as a dressing mirror. The revival of classicist forms from the louis xvi period was widespread during the historicism movement; increasing mechanization allowed for the production of such furniture in solid quality for a wider range of consumers.
