The frame is made of solid walnut, square in section along its entire length—the uprights, crosspieces, and corner joints are constructed without metal connectors, relying on the precision of the carpentry. The profile of each upright is chamfered on the inside, producing a shadow line that lightens the visual mass of the frame without diminishing its physical presence. The smoked gray glass top rests on the frame without mechanical constraints, held in place by its own weight and the edge of the support rail—a typical construction solution of Cassina production of the period. The walnut retains its original unfinished surface; the color is a warm medium brown with visible grain on the flat surfaces of the legs and crosspieces. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
