Curtis's The North American Indian, Portfolio VII (published 1911) — "Kalispel Scene," a serene view of a Kalispel (interior Salish / Pend d'Oreille) village on the still water, figures in dugout canoes drawn across the foreground beneath forested hills. A quiet, atmospheric landscape characteristic of Curtis's environmental scenes of the Plateau peoples.

Printed on Japanese gampi tissue — the rarest and most expensive of the three handmade papers Curtis used, reserved for the deluxe edition (only a few dozen complete sets). A large folio portfolio plate, plate-printed in Boston by John Andrew & Son after Curtis's 1910 copyright photograph.

A genuine period printing, not a later restrike. The gampi tissue, the John Andrew & Son plate credit, the crisp plate impression, and Cardozo provenance confirm an original vintage gravure.
Please note: the gravure is presented in a Holland Van Gelder overmat that is a later, non-vintage replacement — not the original mat. The vintage tissue gravure itself is unaffected; this concerns the mat only, and is noted here for full transparency.
