Founded in 1832 by Charles Christofle, the eponymous company established itself during the Second Empire as the official supplier to European royal and imperial tables, mastering the technique of electroplating silver plating—a process that deposits a layer of fine silver onto a white metal body through electrolysis. The triple-filament model, understated and timeless, is one of the oldest and most enduring designs in the Christofle catalog, available in numerous tea and coffee service styles.
This teapot, with its flattened ovoid body, rests on a molded circular foot with a triple-filament design. The continuously curved body is flanked by a spout with a curved profile and a round, blackened wood handle secured by two silver-plated metal clasps decorated with foliage. The domed lid, edged with a rim, is surmounted by a finial in the shape of a bud—likely a fruit—resting on a bed of molded leaves. The surface is smooth and polished, without any applied decoration. The interior features a strainer integrated into the base of the spout, pierced with small round holes arranged in a regular grid.
The base bears the square Christofle hallmark, the rectangular cartouche "CHRISTOFLE," the model number 30, and the serial number 1237355. The square hallmark with the chess knight was used for silver-plated metal from 1935 onward, placing the piece within 20th-century production.
