A quiet interplay of glass and light defines this wall composition, where structure becomes atmosphere. Designed by carlo nason and produced by av mazzega, the model lp 256 reflects a moment where murano glass found new architectural expression.
design
each lamp is constructed from thick, cast glass elements arranged in a cubic formation around a central light source. The juxtaposition of clear crystal and tobacco-toned panels introduces variation, allowing the light to refract with subtle complexity. When illuminated, the reflector bulb projects through the textured surfaces, casting layered and almost fluid patterns onto the wall. The glass plates, slightly irregular with softened edges, reveal the hand-formed process typical of murano production. Nason’s approach often centred on modularity and repetition, and this set of four demonstrates that idea clearly, forming a rhythmic horizontal installation. Metal fittings remain restrained, supporting the composition without distraction. The design aligns with nason’s broader body of work for mazzega during the 1960s and 1970s, where glass was explored as both structure and diffuser, balancing geometry with organic surface treatment.
a composition that shifts between object and illumination, offering both ambient light and a sculptural presence. The modular arrangement lends itself to hallways or larger walls where repetition can define the space.
condition
the condition is very good, with light wear visible on the metal elements and minor surface variations in the glass consistent with age and production. Some irregularities should be regarded as inherent to the manufacturing process. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
