The son of … Read more Alexandre jacovleff (1887–1938), born in saint petersburg and later naturalized as french, was a prominent russian painter. The son of a naval officer, he studied at the imperial academy of fine arts in saint petersburg under dmitri kardovsky and formed a friendship with vassili choukhaiev. Active in the mir iskousstva movement, he left russia in 1917 to travel through asia, including china and japan. Settling in paris in 1920, jacovleff gained recognition through exhibitions and publications, including drawings & paintings of the far east. In 1924, he became the official painter of the black cruise, traveling across africa and creating 300 drawings. He later designed sets for the ballet semiramis at the paris opera and directed the drawing school at the museum of fine arts in boston. Actif dans le mouvement mir iskousstva, il quitta la russie en 1917 pour l'asie, voyageant en chine et au japon. Installé à paris en 1920, il se distingue par ses expositions et publications, dont « dessins & peintures d’extrême-orient ». En 1924, il devient le peintre officiel de la croisière noire, traversant l’afrique et produisant 300 dessins. Suivant son succès, il réalise les décors du ballet « sémiramis » à l’opéra de paris et dirige l'école de dessin du musée des beaux-arts de boston.
