This is a highly detailed buffet cabinet by the famed French company Mercier Freres. It stands a majestic 81 inches tall, 48 inches wide and approximately 20 inches deep.
The label inside the drawer dates the cabinet to roughly 1870–1910, most likely 1880s–1900s.
This is the classic trade label of Mercier Frères. Founded in 1828 by Claude Mercier. It became known as Mercier Frères around 1867. The address at 100 Faubourg Saint-Antoine matches their long-time location.
This exact wording and format (often on a metal or celluloid/ivorine plaque) appears on many documented pieces from the late 19th to early 20th century (especially 1880s–1910s). It was used during the height of their production of revival furniture.
Mercier Frères produced a wide range of historicist styles, including Neo-Gothic (alongside Louis XV, Louis XVI, and others) and this cabinet’s flamboyant Gothic details align perfectly with their output in the Napoleon III / Belle Époque period.
It does have some imperfections as seen in the detailed photographs which include a chip out of the left hand corner of the marble, a chip out of one of the small round motifs on the top and a water mark on the top shelf, but you would need to be over 6ft tall to ever see it. Also there is no key for the lock that looks non-functioning.
