Handcrafted studio pottery Hotei (Laughing Buddha) statue signed "JK" and dated 1980 inside the hollow body. Hotei is a beloved figure in East Asian folklore symbolizing happiness, abundance, contentment, and good fortune. This substantial ceramic sculpture features an earthy speckled glaze and detailed robe decoration with a traditional treasure sack over the shoulder. Artist-made examples from the late 20th century are often one-of-a-kind or produced in very limited numbers. Likely American studio pottery, sourced in North Carolina.
