A finely cast pair of French gilt bronze ormolu three-light wall sconces from the Napoleon III period, executed in the Louis XVI Revival taste, circa 1850–1880. The elaborate backplates are adorned with seated allegorical female figures holding a terrestrial globe and tablet, flanking a classical urn above a lyre-form cartouche. The lower section features a richly symbolic composition centered on the theme of Time, incorporating a winged hourglass, crossed scythes, and a winged bearded mascaron in an openwork foliate framework. Combining neoclassical elegance with the decorative richness characteristic of the Second Empire, these unusual sconces display exceptional sculptural detail and retain a warm gilt surface throughout. A distinctive and highly decorative pair of French nineteenth-century wall lights.
