CAMA Deruta was a highly influential Italian artisan cooperative renowned for producing premium, hand-painted maiolica (majolica) pottery in the historic ceramics town of Deruta, Italy. Founded in 1954 as the Cooperativa Artigiana Maioliche Artistische, the workshop famously specialized in traditional Renaissance dinnerware and decorative pieces until its official closure in 2011. Because the pottery is no longer in production, genuine CAMA pieces have become highly prized, collectible items on the vintage market.
History and Cultural Impact
• The Cooperative: CAMA was established by a group of nine local artisans to preserve meticulous, old-world handcrafting techniques rather than giving in to post-war industrial manufacturing. [1]
