Vintage mid century modern slipper chair by British architect Terence Harold Robsjohn-Gibbings, produced by Widdicomb in the United States c. 1950s. The chair is characterized by seamless joinery with softly rounded edges throughout and a subtle but signature curve of the front legs.
This particular example has been reupholstered in a textured nude leather from Edelman's All Grain collection. Off-white linen piping and tufting offer punctuation between the chair's layers, highlighting its tiered structure.
The solid walnut frame has been fully refinished and shows beautifully despite seven decades of use. With new high density foam over the original spring array, it combines modern comfort with a traditional feel. A rare and collectible piece restored to the highest standard.
This piece is unmarked. The materials and construction are consistent with pieces made during the 1950s. While many similar pieces were made during this time period, the curve of the front legs is unique to the Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb design.
