It features a silvered wooden frame with areas of the terracotta underlayer visible, and a gently curved top characteristic of the Louis Philippe style.
The mirror with mercury glass is believed to be an apprentice test piece, as smaller and thinner mirrors were often made by young craftsmen before progressing to larger works.
