The table is elegantly proportioned with rounded D-ends, a shaped apron, and slender square tapered legs, all characteristic of the Federal period. Delicate satinwood stringing outlines the central oval reserve and the vertical oval inlays at each corner, adding subtle Neoclassical ornament without overwhelming the beautifully figured mahogany.

One of the most compelling aspects of this piece is its documented provenance. An original handwritten label affixed to the underside reads:

"This table belonged to Dr. Samuel McNair (Maine?) born at Cornish, N.H. Jan. 3, 1770. Died at Warren, N.H. Nov. 14, 1815. He was grandfather of this owner's father."

This rare family inscription provides a direct connection to the table's early ownership and enhances its historical significance.

Elegant enough to serve as a console or writing table when closed, it transforms into a practical games table when opened, making it equally suited to traditional and contemporary interiors.
